Why do mosquitoes bite some people more than others? Scottish scientists, led by entomology expert Dr. Jenny Mordue, believe they've uncovered the key factors.
Research shows mosquitoes primarily target tall and overweight men and women. Larger body sizes make individuals more visible to mosquitoes, while elevated body heat and moisture emissions serve as powerful attractants.
The team analyzed mosquito encounters and bite experiences among 300 Scottish participants, revealing that susceptibility to bites is often hereditary. Women also reported stronger reactions to bites compared to men.
Findings from this rigorous study will appear next year in The British Medical Council's Public Health Journal.
