Last Saturday, VU Medical Center (VUmc) held its second White Coat Ceremony, outfitting nearly 200 aspiring physicians in their iconic white coats. As the first institution in the Netherlands to formally distinguish between the theoretical and practical phases of medical training, VUmc sets a new standard in medical education.
This time-honored tradition, originating from the United States, featured an impressive ceremony where students received their coats and were symbolically inducted into their clinical roles.
The event aims to build deeper insight and awareness of the medical profession among both students and faculty mentors.
Participants also recited a professional pledge, articulating their vision for practicing medicine, the responsibilities, ideals, and duties they embrace, and their commitment to upholding these principles.
