But one woman, Erin Chieze, made a compelling point: "Are these hearts really saving lives?"
On her Facebook page, Erin shared a striking photo of lemons illustrating what breast cancer can look and feel like. It quickly went viral. Here's the image:
Erin explained why sharing these visuals is crucial: "In December 2015, I spotted a mark on my breast matching one of these lemons. I knew immediately it was cancer. The tumor wasn't palpable, but five days later, it was diagnosed. Months after, it reached stage 4."
"A heart wouldn't have helped me detect it. I knew about self-exams, but this image showed exactly what to look for in a life-threatening condition."
She added, "We need real information, not just cute hearts. If I hadn't seen this photo, I wouldn't have known what to check."
Instead of hearts, share practical tips that save lives.
Erin shared her story to empower others, just as this photo empowered her. It's from the 'Know Your Lemons' campaign by Worldwide Breast Cancer, an educational tool teaching women how to examine themselves effectively.
