Flore: Award-Winning Documentary on Alzheimer s, Family Care, and Resilience

Flore is a deeply moving 2013 documentary directed by Jean-Albert Lièvre, slated for theatrical release on September 24, 2014. It earned widespread acclaim, screening out of competition at the 31st Environmental Film Festival in Paris, winning Best Documentary at the Los Angeles COLCOA French Film Festival, and featuring at New York's Socially Relevant Film Festival.

Flore: The Story

Flore, a gifted painter, received an Alzheimer's disease diagnosis several years ago. Specialized institutions failed to help; treatments left her mute, unable to eat, walk, or express emotions, while growing increasingly violent and aggressive—deemed "unmanageable." Doctors suggested a secure facility.

Instead, her children—the director and his sister Véronique—welcomed her to their family home in Corsica with a compassionate, tailored care team. Gradually, she began to "rebirth," reclaiming her sense of self, dignity, and joy amid her illness.

Jean-Albert Lièvre

Filmed over three years, this is Lièvre's first social-issue feature, following his acclaimed environmental and wildlife documentaries. A son's tender perspective infuses every frame, complemented by poignant voice-over. The Alzheimer's Research Association hails it as "a film of love, attention to others, hope, and resilience for Alzheimer's patients—a gateway to hope for our elders."
