What is budokon?

Moves that look like a warrior one minute, an acrobat the next, and then imitate the movement pattern of the animal kingdom. All done with gentle, slow and steady movements. It looks like a single flow, the intricate movement patterns are performed easily and in a controlled manner. It is beautiful. But what is it, Budokon?

Cameron Shayne founded Budokon in 2001. He started his career as a personal trainer in Hollywood before delving into many different performing arts. The further he got into the different art forms, the more curious he became about what unites them, what binds them together and makes a person good at moving. He began to combine martial arts with yoga, calestenics, animal locomotion and mobility to create a system that not only trains great athletes, but also great people.

The word Budokon means “The Way of the Warrior Spirit”, and training Budokon means much more than just being strong and agile. Budokon training is largely about personal development, in-depth knowledge and awareness of oneself, being able to listen to the body and use the power of the mind to solve problems.

Today Budokon has more than 1,000 teachers around the world and Cameron's way of moving has made its mark in modern yoga, dance, calestenics and many other forms of exercise. Cameron also trains world martial arts champions.

Budokon means freedom. When you move, you are completely yourself. You are fully present in your own body and that is where you find the most honest way to express yourself – your freedom.
