Early Time-Restricted Eating Reduces Hunger and Boosts Fat Burning for Weight Loss

For the first time, human studies show that eating early in the day reduces daily hunger fluctuations and shifts the 24-hour pattern of fat oxidation and energy metabolism—key factors in weight loss. Researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) explored whether adjusting meal timing can enhance fat burning and weight management. Their approach: consuming the last meal by mid-afternoon, then fasting until breakfast the next day.

"Restricting eating to a shorter window than usual can support weight loss," noted the lead researcher. "Participants who ate only between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., with nothing afterward, maintained steadier appetite control throughout the day compared to the typical 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. schedule." Skipping dinner shows promise for weight loss too, though more research is needed to confirm these benefits.
