A study from King's College London, published in August 2021, highlights key differences in early COVID-19 symptoms between men and women.
The researchers analyzed 18 symptoms, identifying the most common early indicators: loss of smell and taste, chest pain, persistent cough, abdominal pain, blisters on feet, sore eyes, and unusual muscle aches.
Women most frequently reported loss of smell, chest pain, and persistent cough. In contrast, men were more likely to experience shortness of breath, fatigue, and chills.
Differences also emerged by age. Loss of smell and taste was rare in those over 60 and absent in people over 80, while diarrhea was more prevalent in those over 60 and 80.
This research focused solely on initial symptoms, not the disease's progression.
