Hi, I'm Dr. Tamara de Weijer, a general practitioner. Starting with the first issue of this year's Santé magazine, you'll find my regular column on nutrition, lifestyle, and health. Catch my vlogs afterward on Sante.nl. As a seasoned GP, I'm thrilled to share my professional insights and real-world experience with you each month!
The debut vlog tackles good intentions. We all know the drill: holidays end, January arrives, and we're buzzing with New Year's resolutions—like shedding pounds, cutting stress, or improving sleep. Yet many fall into the trap of overhauling everything at once: healthier eating, less alcohol, running three times weekly, earlier bedtimes, screen limits, daily meditation. A few stick with it, but most don't. Why? Our brains resist change, craving the status quo and viewing these shifts as unwelcome sacrifices.

Why not flip the script this year? Ask yourself: What lights you up in the morning? What gives your life purpose? Knowing your 'why' makes healthier eating, more exercise, better relaxation, and quality sleep far more achievable.
Research on 'Blue Zones'—regions where centenarians thrive—shows that a sense of purpose leads to longer, healthier lives. Cultivating meaning doesn't require grand gestures; small steps suffice. Try this: For one week, jot down three daily highlights that brought joy. Reflect on what you want more of in the new year and the steps needed. Enjoy the process—see you next time!
