This is how you measure your temperature properly

Set a baseline

You have a fever when you have a temperature of 38 degrees or higher, but when exactly do we speak of an increase? That very much depends on the standard temperature you have, which we also call the baseline. Everyone has a different baseline, so your temperature can deviate at different times. Your genes, physical exercise, and even food and drink can affect your temperature. Therefore, measure your baseline by measuring your temperature a few times a day. Note:in the afternoon your temperature is always slightly higher than in the morning. Pay attention to the thermometer you use

There are a number of different types of thermometers and they can give you different results. You have ear thermometers, rectal thermometers, forehead, underarm and even no-touch thermometers. But which one is best to use now?

It seems that the ear thermometer can most accurately measure your temperature. That's because your eardrum best reflects your body's core temperature because it has the same blood supply as your hypothalamus, the part of your brain that regulates your body temperature. That's why doctors often take your temperature through your ear. Make sure not to push too far when you measure your temperature at home with an ear thermometer, otherwise you can damage your eardrum.

It is still recommended for small children and babies to measure their temperature rectally. When taking oral temperature, keep in mind that anything you've eaten or drunk that's hot or cold can affect the reading. Therefore, always wait 30 to 60 minutes after eating before taking your temperature orally.
