Netherlands Government Announces New COVID-19 Measures Nationwide

Prime Minister Mark Rutte, RIVM Director Jaap van Dissel, and Health Minister Bruno Bruins announced new COVID-19 measures during a press conference, addressing the virus's spread across the Netherlands.

The key measures include:

  • Stay home if you have cold symptoms, cough, sore throat, or fever. Avoid social contact and call your doctor only if symptoms worsen.
  • All gatherings of more than 100 people are canceled nationwide, including at museums, concert halls, theaters, sports clubs, and competitions.
  • Work from home where possible or stagger working hours to reduce crowding.
  • Vulnerable groups (elderly and those with weakened immunity) should avoid crowds, public transport, and limit visits; everyone is encouraged to minimize contact with at-risk individuals.
  • Healthcare and essential workers: Stay home only if symptomatic with fever. Consult employers and avoid international travel.
  • Universities and colleges should switch to online education instead of large lectures.
  • Primary schools, secondary schools, vocational education, and childcare remain open due to low infection rates, limited international exposure, lower risk to youth, and significant social impacts of closure. Children with colds must stay home.

These measures apply across the entire Netherlands, including North Brabant, until March 31.
