Up to two-thirds of women express dissatisfaction with their breasts, leading to emotional insecurity and potential physical health risks.
Breasts vary widely in shape and size, yet many women remain unhappy with their bust. This insight comes from a study by Anglia Ruskin University in the UK, which surveyed 18,000 women across 40 countries.

Just 29% of participants were satisfied with their breasts. Meanwhile, 48% wished for a larger bust, and 23% preferred a smaller size.
Lead researcher Professor Viren Swami notes that breast dissatisfaction can harm mental health through negative self-image. Physically, less satisfied women are less likely to perform regular breast self-exams, delaying detection of irregularities. Routine checks help identify changes early for specialist evaluation.
Notably, older women place less emphasis on breast size. As Professor Swami explains, they face reduced societal pressure for 'perfect' breasts and appreciate their functional role in motherhood and breastfeeding, beyond aesthetics.
