1. Brushing Your Teeth

This might seem counterintuitive, but timing matters. After consuming carb- or sugar-rich foods like bread, cookies, or soda, bacteria in your mouth produce acids that erode tooth enamel. Brushing promptly helps remove plaque and prevent buildup, safeguarding your enamel.

For acidic items like wine or citrus fruits, wait at least 30 minutes. These soften enamel temporarily, and brushing too soon can wear it away. Instead, rinse with water afterward or brush beforehand.

2. Going to Bed

Heading to sleep right after eating disrupts rest. Ideally, wait three hours to allow upright digestion, preventing acid reflux. Fatty foods, alcohol, and fried items exacerbate this, delaying sleep onset and reducing quality.

Opt for lighter evening meals to promote better sleep hygiene.

3. Exercising

Your mother's warning about no swimming post-meal had merit, though not due to blood diversion as once thought—your body manages both digestion and activity. Still, intense exercise soon after can cause stomach discomfort and muscle cramps.

After a large meal, wait three to four hours. For lighter snacks, one to two hours suffices.
