Living within about 800 meters of the sea can significantly improve your mental health.
Research from the University of Exeter shows that coastal residents experience fewer mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression. The study analyzed data from 26,000 people across Britain.

People living less than 1 kilometer from the sea were 22% less likely to develop mental health problems than those more than 50 kilometers inland. For low-income families, the benefit rose to 40%.
Lead researcher Dr. Jo Garrett states this is the first study demonstrating that low-income coastal dwellers have fewer psychological problems than inland peers. "This should prompt governments to prioritize coastal regions."
