Typing is faster than writing. but taking notes with pen and paper helps you remember the information better.
Research Researchers came to that conclusion after a study in which two groups of students watched TED Talks. One group was given a laptop to take notes, the other group was given pen and paper. The students were then questioned twice. Those who had taken notes in writing appeared to have remembered more.
At first glance
The notes of the group with the laptop seemed better at first. The notes were more extensive and gave a more literal account of the Ted Talks. But after the groups were questioned, it turned out to be just the opposite.
Pen and paper helps to remember
Both groups scored equally well when it came to the facts, but connections and questions about a broader context were better answered by the group with pen and paper.
How is that possible?
Because typing is faster, you can easily type out large parts of the presentation. Writing is slower, so you are forced to think about what you are writing. As a result, you think about the content and there is more time to interpret the text.
From now on, use pen and paper during lectures or important meetings.
