Gym Motivations Uncovered: Women Prioritize Figure, Men Focus on Strength – Technogym Survey

Do you hit the gym to look good? You're not alone.

Backed by Research
This insight comes from a comprehensive survey by wellness leader Technogym, involving over 38,000 European athletes. Using their Aspiration Finder app—developed with UILM University of Milan—they analyzed motivations tied to personal traits and lifestyles across Europe's sports cultures.

Men vs. Women
Women primarily exercise to burn calories and sculpt a great figure. Men, however, target muscle strength and stability. As men age, priorities shift: less emphasis on looks or peak performance, more on health and relaxation. Dutch women, by contrast, remain driven by appearance well into later years. In other countries, women tend to value sports less over time. Together, we're all staying active!
