Bad Breath: Why It Remains a Taboo Turn-Off for 90% of Dutch People

90% of Dutch people consider bad breath a major turn-off.

Colleagues with bad breath
Bad breath isn't just a dating deal-breaker. Nearly 70% of Dutch people report being annoyed by colleagues' bad breath at times. Despite its commonality, the topic stays taboo—only one in four Dutch would candidly tell a close friend or family member about it.

Shame
One-third of Dutch people admit to feeling embarrassed by their own bad breath occasionally. Over half, however, believe they always have fresh breath. In reality, 30% have been confronted about theirs.

Lenient
While 80% of Dutch expect fresh breath from those around them, they're more forgiving toward partners. Almost 40% note their loved one has bad breath sometimes—yet it rarely spells the end of the relationship.
