How Flossing and Healthy Gums Can Boost Pregnancy Chances: New Research Reveals

Women trying to conceive can significantly benefit from prioritizing oral health, including regular flossing.

A desire for children? Maintaining very healthy gums is key, according to new research from scientists at the University of Western Australia. Just as obesity can hinder fertility, poor oral hygiene may delay conception by up to two months.

Gingivitis
The study, involving 3,500 women, found that those with gum inflammation took an average of seven months to get pregnant, compared to just five months for women with healthy gums. Researchers noted elevated levels of inflammatory markers in the blood of women with gum disease.

Chain Reaction
These oral inflammations trigger chain reactions throughout the body, potentially disrupting normal reproductive functions. The researchers strongly recommend flossing and excellent gum care to promote faster conception.
