Prevent Winter Infections: WHO-Recommended Hand Washing and Drying Tips

Regular hand washing is a cornerstone of preventing infections that spike during winter. However, proper technique is key—many people miss the details that make it truly effective.

The World Health Organization (WHO) strongly recommends washing hands with soap and water. Without soap, it's insufficient to remove pathogenic bacteria and viruses that cause flu and colds from the skin. Rub thoroughly for at least 30 seconds, covering between fingers and under nails.

Drying is equally crucial.
Avoid warm air hand dryers—they can spread contaminants and lead to re-contamination.

Opt for a clean, unused cloth towel or a disposable paper towel, which you discard afterward.
