Recent research from the United States reveals that children under age five who don't get enough sleep face a significantly higher risk of obesity in early childhood.
Childhood Obesity Trends
About one-third of American children are overweight, with up to 17% classified as obese (severely overweight). These rates continue to rise, underscoring a growing public health concern.
The latest US study examined data from 2,000 children, accounting for variables like exercise levels and parental weight. Results showed a strong correlation between inadequate sleep during the first five years of life and the development of obesity.
Findings were published in the journal Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine.
