Tips to get rid of your cold faster

Having a cold has never been so uncomfortable. With these tips your cold will be over faster and guess what? Do not blow your nose.

Don't blow
When you blow hard, you squeeze mucus into the sinuses and you run the risk of getting a sinus infection. According to researchers, it is therefore better to turn your nose up. Still snout urge? Then use a tissue, close one nostril and do not blow through the other nostril too hard. Then blow the other hole. A nasal douche can also do wonders to clear your airways (a bit strange at first, but very effective).

Sleep enough
Take your rest. A night's sleep of at least eight hours speeds up your recovery. It is better not to sleep on your side or your back, because the pressure will close your nose or start walking. Rather lie on your back or in a slightly upright sitting position.

Wash hands, clean taps and door handles
Besides reducing the chance of catching a cold in the first place, washing hands, taps and door handles – especially thoroughly – helps prevent the further spread of germs. This way you will get rid of your cold sooner.

Watch your mucous membranes
Drinking plenty of water keeps the swollen mucous membranes moist. Especially the warm vapor of tea is good against stuck mucus in the nose and throat. Alcoholic drinks, on the other hand, are counterproductive and dehydrated, as does a warm shower. Also avoid cigarette smoke, it irritates and delays recovery. A nasal spray based on a saline solution (because it has no side effects) can open your airways.

Provide fresh air
Dry, warm air dries out the mucous membranes. In addition, centrally heated rooms with several people are an ideal breeding ground for the cold virus to strike. So keep ventilating well.
