A flexible tube is gently inserted through the vagina and cervix to place tiny coils in the fallopian tube openings. These coils, lined with polyester fibers, promote scar tissue growth that seals the fallopian tubes within about three months, delivering highly effective, irreversible contraception backed by extensive clinical use.
Currently, only select health insurers cover Essure, though adoption is growing with more expected soon.
