An innovative Austrian startup, Motobit, has launched Sentinel—a portable haptic feedback device designed to enhance motorbike safety. It delivers critical alerts through vibrations, allowing riders to stay focused on the road ahead.
According to 2019 Road Safety data, motorcyclists account for just 1.6% of road traffic but 19% of fatalities. With dangers lurking everywhere, companies like Motobit are pioneering solutions for safer rides. Recently, Motobit unveiled Sentinel in a compelling video (see below). This Bluetooth-connected device pairs with a dedicated app to send real-time vibrations, helping riders maintain focus, adhere to speed limits, and prevent accidents.
Haptic feedback provides intuitive, force-based kinesthetic cues—much like those in virtual reality—alerting riders to hazards without visual distraction. Compact and versatile, Sentinel clips to a belt, slips into a pocket, or wears as a bracelet for effortless use.
Sentinel's vibrations are powered by sophisticated algorithms that analyze driving patterns and road conditions. Riders get instant warnings for excessive speeds, especially in curves. Unlike audible or visual alerts, haptic feedback keeps eyes on the road—no distractions needed. A quick press summons emergency services, and group mode enforces safe distances among equipped riders.
Now live on Indiegogo, Sentinel is available for around $100. The campaign has raised half its €15,000 goal with 20 days remaining.
