Emergency Bikes: Cutting Through Paris Traffic to Reach Patients Faster

In Paris's daily gridlock, emergency doctors face tough challenges reaching patients. A collaboration between Wunderman Thompson agency and Ecox, electric bike specialists, introduces Emergency Bikes—purpose-built for urban medical response.

Built for City Challenges

These innovative electric bikes streamline doctor and emergency worker mobility in the capital. The pilot program launches in September 2020, hailed by creators as the "first city-proof emergency vehicle."

As reported by L'ADN on September 18, 2020, Paris endures about 200 km of daily traffic jams, tripling during RER and metro strikes. Drivers lose roughly 140 hours a year stuck in congestion—even ambulances struggle.

Key Features for Rapid Response

Paris Medical Emergencies handle an average of 200 visits daily. Emergency Bikes enable twice the speed in hard-to-access areas. Powered by a 500 W motor with 160 km autonomy, they feature puncture-resistant tires, GPS tracking for real-time location, and secure storage for medical gear. Branded with the Paris Medical Emergency logo on the rims for high visibility, options include cargo, VTC, and urban models.

Successful trials could expand to nurses, medical equipment carriers, and firefighters. Plans also include rollout to other French cities.
