Struggling with back pain? You're not alone—about two million people in the Netherlands deal with it regularly. While pinpointing the exact cause can be tricky, adopting the right sitting posture is a proven, expert-recommended way to reduce discomfort and prevent issues.
Here are three optimal sitting positions for computer work, driving, or relaxing in an armchair, backed by ergonomic best practices.
Adjust your chair so your knees bend at 90 degrees with feet flat on the floor, and align armrests with your desk height. Position the monitor 50-60 cm from your face, and tuck your chin slightly for neutral neck alignment.
Ensure knees are slightly bent when pressing the pedals, and recline the backrest just a bit. Sit as far back as possible; when you extend your arm, the steering wheel should reach wrist level.
