The Santé editorial team is taking on the National Sugar Challenge: a full week without added sugars in food or drinks. Here's my honest Day 1 experience as editor Maike.
My mornings usually start with yogurt topped with homemade granola (#fitgirl vibes!) and fresh fruit. Though I bake my own granola, it often includes a few tablespoons of honey, making it less healthy than it seems. My go-to Alpro 'nature' yogurt also has added sugar, and the sugar-free alternative is too tart for my taste. Today, I switched to warm oatmeal made with unsweetened oat milk, cinnamon, and apple slices—no honey this time. It's a tad bland and not very Instagram-worthy, but it gets the job done.
The rest of the day went smoothly—I skipped sugars entirely. Eating late helped me avoid those evening cookie cravings. Small win! I'm curious if I can keep this up for the whole week.
