Dr. Jakubowicz's theory: Consuming sweets in the morning helps curb cravings later in the day. Backed by a study of 193 overweight participants split into two groups, both on strict diets. After four months, they lost similar amounts of weight.

However, the group skipping sweets at breakfast struggled to maintain their progress. Those enjoying a slice of chocolate cake each morning had little trouble keeping the weight off.
