Miss Healthy & Happy: 5 Proven Tips for Sustainable Weight Loss from a Real Journey

Ilse, known as Miss Healthy & Happy, has shed over 15 kilos since early this year. Drawing from her personal experience, she shares invaluable lessons with Santé Magazine.

Who is Miss Healthy & Happy?
On January 2, 2015, everything changed for Ilse, aka Miss Healthy & Happy. In her thirties, she's a busy business owner, a Brabant Burgundian, cat lover, creative soul, travel enthusiast—and formerly overweight. Her goal: drop 33 kilos to reclaim a healthy weight. She's already lost more than 15 kilos, and through her blog, she inspires and motivates countless women (and some men) on their own paths to weight loss and healthier living.

The Power of Mindset
Ilse: Lately, I've noticed huge progress in my mindset. Weight loss is a transformative journey that reveals who you are, changing you from the inside out.

Embracing a Healthy Lifestyle
I've truly adopted a sustainable healthy lifestyle. This doesn't mean swearing off sweets forever or surviving on greens and smoothies alone. For me, it's about 80% healthy choices and 20% indulgences. The real secret to lasting weight loss? Overhaul your lifestyle: build lifelong healthy eating habits and incorporate regular movement.

Flipping the Switch
I've tried nearly every diet out there, but nothing compares to this success. It's not about quick kilos in a short time—it's a genuine lifestyle shift. Diets aren't all bad; some have merit. But mindset is key when committing to weight loss.

Be Kind to Your Body
If you're overweight, it often stems from an imbalanced relationship with food (though medical issues can play a role too). Successful weight loss requires a mindset focused on self-care—not starvation, endless calorie counting, crash diets, or temporary fixes that lead back to old habits. Here are my 5 battle-tested tips to help you flip that switch.

My 5 Tips for Successful Weight Loss

1. Set Realistic Goals
Aim for your target weight, but break it into manageable chunks if it's a big goal like mine. You can't summit a 3km mountain in one step. Reward milestones with tangible treats—like my 'first 5kg loss bag,' which I still cherish as a reminder of my progress. Opt for lasting rewards over fleeting ones.

2. Give Yourself Time to Lose Weight Healthily
Weight loss isn't precise, so stay consistent even if the scale disappoints. It gets easier with time. Focus on learning healthy eating, new habits, and self-care. Reflect on setbacks: identify pitfalls, plan improvements, and persist. Sometimes it's water retention—celebrate another week of nourishing your body anyway.

3. Be Strict, But Forgiving
Treat slip-ups as lessons to fuel future success. Harsh self-punishment leads to spirals: one bad evening becomes a weekend, then a month. I've been there—now I prioritize a maintainable healthy lifestyle.

4. Avoid Self-Pity
Resisting treats is tough at first, but reframe it positively: 'This doesn't serve my body right now.' You've had too much before, so pause to enjoy later. Think of health benefits—being kind to your body feels great.

5. Plan Ahead—A Goal Without a Plan Is Just a Wish
Schedule workouts and meals in your calendar. Prep for busy days: quick home meals, pre-dinner soup, batch cooking on Sundays. Fuel smartly for exercise—skip heavy spaghetti pre-workout.

These tips have transformed my journey. Questions? Ask away—I'm here to help you switch to a healthier life. Follow along; I've got half my 33kg mission left, and your support means everything.

Love,
