Why Does Fat Always Accumulate in the Same Places? Belly, Buttocks, and Hips Explained

Belly, buttocks, hips... Why do fat rolls persistently gather in these same areas? And crucially, how can you effectively reduce them?

Find expert answers starting Tuesday, 21 April, in the May issue of Santé magazine, page 64. In 2020, after the article's publication, groundbreaking research identified a gene that may hold the key.

The Mysterious Gene
Researchers measured hip and waist circumferences in 224,000 people, analyzing regions linked to apple or pear body shapes. This revealed dozens of genetic hotspots, many near a single key gene.

Scientific Confirmation
Biomedical experts disabled this gene in zebrafish and compared fat storage to normal fish. Those without the gene accumulated less belly fat and had smaller fat cells— a factor that lowers disease risk in humans.
