Why Adults Today Are Less Healthy Than Previous Generations

Life expectancy continues to rise, yet adults today are in poorer health than those from previous generations.

The Study
Researchers tracked 6,000 adults from Doetinchem, dividing them into four age groups: 20-29 years, 30-39 years, 40-49 years, and 50-59 years. As participants advanced to older groups, their data was compared with newcomers in those categories.

Key Findings on Health
Younger adults showed higher rates of overweight, obesity, and high blood pressure compared to cohorts born just 10 years earlier. Those around 40 today match the obesity levels of previous 55-year-olds, meaning younger generations are confronting these issues 15 years ahead of schedule.
