University Study: Meditation Cuts Cold Sick Days by 76% – More Effective Than Exercise

A stuffy nose, constant sneezing, coughing, and that heavy-headed fog are downright frustrating. Emerging research highlights meditation as a top natural strategy for preventing these common cold symptoms.

Exercise or Meditate?
Regular exercise or brisk walks can lower your cold risk. Yet, scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison found meditation even more powerful.

Fewer Sick Days
In a study, three groups were tracked: mindfulness meditators, joggers, and a control group doing nothing. Meditators missed 76% fewer workdays due to illness, compared to 48% for joggers.

Respiratory Benefits
Meditation reduced respiratory infection duration and severity by up to 50%; for athletes, it was up to 40% in severe cases.

Still Catch a Cold?
Meditation offers no guarantees, but for practitioners and exercisers alike, symptoms resolved faster.
