Fresh spinach, a vibrant bowl of mixed fruits, or a crisp salad—these simple pleasures might just brighten your mood. Researchers at Warwick Medical School discovered that the more fruits and vegetables people consume daily, the happier they feel.
The study pooled data from multiple large-scale surveys involving over 80,000 men and women. Participants reported their daily eating habits, exercise routines, work lives, smoking status, life satisfaction, feelings of nervousness or happiness, and any mental health concerns.
Seven servings a day for peak happiness. The happiest individuals consumed seven 85-gram servings of fruits and vegetables daily. That's substantial—an average apple weighs about 120 grams. Notably, the researchers didn't differentiate by specific types of produce.
While the exact mechanism remains unclear, it could be that fruits and vegetables enhance well-being directly, or that naturally happier people gravitate toward healthier diets.
