Coffee, Sex, and Everyday Activities Linked to Stroke Risk in Brain Aneurysm Patients

Researchers at UMC Utrecht have discovered that routine activities like drinking coffee, blowing your nose, or having sex can trigger a stroke in high-risk individuals—specifically those with an untreated brain aneurysm, a weakened spot in a brain blood vessel wall.

Rest assured: These findings apply only to this specific group. Lead researcher Monique Vlak explained to Gezondheidsnet.nl, "It's like a balloon. The wall stretches, but eventually bursts, leading to brain bleeding."

Only two percent of people have a brain aneurysm, and rupture leading to a stroke occurs in a tiny fraction of those cases.

Risk Factors
Vlak and her team studied 250 patients whose aneurysms ruptured, identifying eight key triggers that sharply elevate stroke risk:

Drinking coffee;
– Intense physical exertion;
– Blowing your nose;
Sex;
– Straining to defecate;
– Being startled;
Drinking cola;
– Anger.

These factors cause a brief but intense blood pressure surge.

Avoidance Tips
If you have a known aneurysm, steer clear of these triggers. Skip coffee and cola, but maintain moderate exercise.
