Smokers Face Double the Risk of Tooth Loss, German Study Reveals

Need motivation to quit smoking? A new German study shows smokers are twice as likely to lose their teeth compared to non-smokers.

Compiled by experts from a national dental organization and scientists at the Cancer Research Center, the report highlights key risks.

Smokers suffer gum disease far more often and face higher death rates from mouth and throat cancer. In Germany alone, around 4,500 people die yearly from these cancers—mostly male smokers.

Presented last Wednesday in Berlin, the findings urge dentists to counsel patients on quitting smoking to protect oral health.
