Delicious and heart-healthy, pistachios deliver powerful benefits for cholesterol management. Experts at Pennsylvania State University found that these nutrient-dense nuts, loaded with antioxidants, significantly improve cholesterol levels.
Researchers investigated the effect of pistachios on antioxidant levels in the blood. Study participants followed three diets over three months: a standard cholesterol-lowering diet without nuts, the same diet with 42 grams of pistachios daily, and one with 78 grams.
Results showed participants had much higher antioxidant levels in their blood after the pistachio diets, with cholesterol significantly lower than before.
Pistachios exert a cholesterol-lowering effect by providing antioxidants that protect cells from free radical damage.
