New Year s Resolutions on the Rise: Survey Insights on Lasting Weight Loss Success

The era of New Year's weight loss resolutions fizzling out by January is over. A survey by Valtaf.nl and Gezondheidsnet.nl shows that no less than 60% of people successfully pursue weight loss goals year-round.

This study of 2,000 respondents reveals that good intentions are gaining popularity. In 2009, 83% made resolutions; by 2010, that rose to 87%. Weight loss and maintenance topped the list again, with healthier eating and more exercise as the leading strategies.

Resolutions from the previous year are holding strong too—50% of respondents are still actively pursuing them. The top reason for failure? Lack of discipline.
