SSIAD Home Nursing Care Services: Eligibility, What They Offer, and How to Get Started

SSIAD (Services de Soins Infirmiers À Domicile) home nursing care services support elderly individuals who are ill, dependent, or disabled, enabling them to receive essential nursing and hygiene assistance right in their own homes—without the need for hospitalization or moving to a care facility.

Eligibility Criteria for SSIAD Home Nursing Care

Adults aged 60 and older who are ill or dependent—but not requiring mandatory hospitalization or institutional care—can access SSIAD services. These are also available to people under 60 with disabilities or chronic illnesses.

SSIAD services serve four key purposes: preventing loss of autonomy, avoiding unnecessary hospital stays when health permits, easing the transition back home after hospitalization, and delaying admission to facilities like EHPADs (long-term care homes for dependent elderly).

What Services Do SSIADs Provide?

Authorized by Regional Health Agencies (ARS), SSIADs are medico-social structures that uphold strict user rights, including informed consent about care, access to your medical file, care continuity, a personalized care plan, and a welcome booklet detailing services, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and operational rules.

In case of disputes, you can request mediation from a qualified person appointed by local authorities with expertise in medico-social care.

SSIAD interventions include hygiene assistance (bathing, grooming) and nursing acts like dressings, injections, medication administration, and general medical monitoring—all delivered by trained nursing assistants and registered nurses in your home.

For comprehensive support, SSIADs coordinate with other professionals such as physiotherapists or podiatrists. They also manage personal assistance for daily tasks like housekeeping.

Services operate 24/7, including holidays, tailored to your needs.

How to Apply for SSIAD Home Nursing Services

SSIAD requires a doctor's prescription and is fully covered by health insurance—no out-of-pocket costs for eligible individuals.

With your prescription, contact local SSIAD providers via the National Information Portal for Seniors, your departmental or municipal information point. A coordinating nurse will visit to assess your hygiene and medical needs, then propose a customized intervention schedule.
