The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) advises caution with teas and dietary supplements containing St. John's wort, as they can pose significant health risks.
RIVM highlights dangers when combining St. John's wort with certain medications. For instance, it can diminish the effectiveness of chemotherapy or treatments for fungal and viral infections.
It may also intensify effects of other drugs, including antidepressants and tranquilizers.
