In 2009, Sylvie Meis faced breast cancer and underwent chemotherapy. She publicly described it as preventive at the time, but the reality was more serious.
During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, in an exclusive interview with German outlet Bild, Meis disclosed that her treatment was necessary because the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes.

“I was afraid of being written off, but at one point had to disclose my illness. I mentioned that the chemotherapy was preventive, but kept silent about the fact that the cancer had already spread. I was afraid of the headlines and didn't want people to think: Sylvie is going to die.”
The presenter first sensed trouble during a routine stretch to clean something overhead, when a sharp stab hit her chest. Instinctively knowing something was wrong, she promptly sought medical evaluation.
Now cancer-free, Sylvie continues medication and undergoes checkups every six months. “You always have to be alert that the cancer can come back. That is why regular checks are important.”
