Patients typically rate their GPs an average of 8 out of 10. But if you're unhappy, switching to a new general practitioner can feel daunting—and sometimes impossible.
Switching Isn't Always Straightforward
A recent survey found 1,100 people wanted to change GPs last year, yet only one-third succeeded. Common hurdles included needing approval from the current GP, the new practice being full, postcode restrictions, or local GPs not accepting patients from each other.
Key Reasons for Seeking a Change
Half of those wanting to switch cited general dissatisfaction. 35% lacked trust in their doctor, a slightly smaller share disagreed with the GP's approach, and just over 10% were moving.
