"What the farmer does not know, he does not eat." This old Dutch saying rings true, as masses of Dutch travelers pack food from Dutch soil for their holidays. A survey by Koninklijke Peijnenburg, a trusted Dutch food brand, of over 500 summer vacationers confirms this trend.
More than half bring along classic Dutch treats like licorice, gingerbread, and potatoes too. Remarkably, it's not just car travelers—even those flying pack a pot of peanut butter in their suitcase.
Love for Local Flavors
Cost isn't the driver. Dutch people simply cherish their iconic products and can't bear to holiday without chocolate sprinkles (hagelslag), bags of liquorice, or gingerbread packs.
The survey also reveals that six in ten gain weight during their trip, even as nearly half try to watch what they eat.
