Led by a consortium of French companies and researchers, EasyCov is a groundbreaking saliva-based virological test for COVID-19. Set for market launch this summer following CE certification, this simple, practical, and fast screening method could transform detection—especially in Corsica's proposed Green Pass for safe tourism.
Developed by experts primarily in Montpellier, the EasyCov consortium includes Skillcell, Vogo, the Inovie group—with its network of 380 laboratories across France—and the CNRS-directed Sys2Diag research lab. Thomas Hottier, medical biologist and co-director at Inovie, shared insights with France Bleu on May 31, 2020:
"It delivers results in under an hour, far quicker than traditional PCR tests that can take up to 24 hours."
Painless and user-friendly, the test collects a sample from under the tongue, enabling use outside medical biology labs while requiring validation by a qualified medical biologist.
Production is slated to ramp up in summer 2020, pending CE marking to meet EU standards—expected around June 15.

Thomas Hottier, whose father Anthony served as mayor of Barrettali, Corsica (2001-2020), has closely monitored the island's Green Pass initiative. This system aims to welcome tourists only after confirming they are COVID-19-free.
While details remain fluid, Hottier notes EasyCov's rapid results make it ideal for pre-travel testing via plane or ferry. Integrating EasyCov into the Green Pass could safeguard Corsica's vital tourism economy and public health this season.
