Fountain Water Risks: Why 1 in 25 Kids Gets Sick After Playing

Do your kids love splashing in fountains on warm days? It's a fun way to cool off, but it comes with real health risks. Research shows a high chance of children falling ill from fountain water.

Many Children Affected
A Utrecht University study found that, on average, 1 in 25 children gets sick after playing in fountains. On scorching hot days, that risk jumps to 1 in 3 children.

Why Fountain Water is Contaminated
Public fountains often recirculate rainwater, which picks up pollutants like dog or bird droppings from streets and surroundings. This makes the water far from safe for play.
