As someone who has relied on time-honored natural remedies for minor injuries, I often turn to grandmother's wisdom. Recently, when my neighbor returned from rugby practice with a painful sprain, I shared this proven cabbage poultice method with him—and it worked wonders. Now, I'm passing it on to you.
Choose your preferred cabbage—green or red. Wash the leaves thoroughly, pat them dry, and remove the thick central rib from each one.
Crush the leaves well to release their juices, then layer several thicknesses directly over the sprained area. Secure with a clean cloth (like a dish towel), followed by a light bandage—avoid wrapping too tightly to ensure good circulation.
Leave the poultice in place for several hours, such as overnight or during a relaxing afternoon. It's normal if it develops a strong odor; this indicates the cabbage is actively drawing out inflammation.
Repeat the process daily for a few days to maximize relief and promote healing.
