Beware of excessive hygiene

Because let's not forget that some dermatologists are cautious:according to them, excessive hygiene is harmful to health.

For Maud Bezier, who is a dermatologist, washing too often attacks the skin.

"It's a fact. Soap strips the skin and at the same time alters the hydrolipidic film, present on all surfaces of the epidermis.

Under the effect of aggressive washes, weakened skin is prone to drying out, which can take a severe form for skin with a tendency to dryness", she explains in an article by LCI.

But to choose between a shower with soap and a shower without using soap, the answer of the specialists is without ambiguity. It is best to use a soap.

And for the children? Do they have to be washed daily?

The answer here may surprise you.

Avoid washing without soap

Dermatologist Catherine Ghouti explains that washing without soap does not eliminate the dead epidermal cells that accumulate on the skin over time.

Similarly, washing without soap does not remove sebum, the natural fatty substance that coats the skin.

But as much as it is useful to maintain this hydrolipidic film to protect the epidermis, it is equally important to get rid of dead cells accumulated throughout the day.

And not doing it regularly can cause skin damage .

So dermatologists recommend using soap-free shower gels, surgras soaps or dermatological bars.

Make your homemade soap and shower gel

However, there is another alternative.

Why not make your own moisturizing and natural shower gel yourself?

It's easy and you are sure to have a gel with gentle and skin-friendly products. Find out how here.

And nothing prevents you from also making a mild soap without soda, as explained here.

But this is not always enough to avoid dry skin and tightness. Because there is another reason for having tight skin:water that is too hot and calcareous.

"Too hot or very calcareous water are all aggravating factors", confirms Maud Bezier.

And the hair?

The same problem arises with hair. Washing them too frequently attacks them.

However, washing them only with water is not enough to have beautiful clean hair...

"Washing your hair with water would not be enough, in my opinion, to properly remove all the keratin residues, sebum and debris that settle there," says Maud Bezier.

However, some have chosen not to wash their hair with shampoo that contains too many chemicals.

More and more people are using simple apple cider vinegar and baking soda to keep their hair clean.

So in summary, taking a shower every day is not necessary to be clean.

It all depends on your activity during the day. On the other hand, it is better to use a soap adapted to your skin!
