As a DIY enthusiast with years of crafting experience, I've simplified homemade soap-making for everyone—even my kids have mastered it (check the photo below!).
Using fragrance-free glycerin, fresh herbs, and citrus peels like lemon, you can create luxurious, personalized soaps. My favorite? Vibrant green mint soap with its refreshing scent.

Customize scents to your liking—try fresh rosemary with lemon zest for a zesty, herbaceous twist.

Here's my tried-and-true, beginner-friendly recipe. Follow along:
- Fragrance-free glycerine soap
- Assorted aromatic herbs and citrus fruits (basil, mint, rosemary, sage, orange, lemon)
- Food processor for chopping
- Glass bowl or measuring cup
- Plastic spoon or spatula
- Non-stick molds (or recyclable plastic/cardboard containers)
- A little oil

Dice the glycerine soap and place in a glass bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals until fully melted, stirring to dissolve chunks.
While melting, finely chop herbs by hand or in a food processor. Mix to taste—about 1 tablespoon per soap. Zest citrus. Note: Orange and basil may yield a greenish-brown hue.

Use fun-shaped molds or repurpose yogurt pots for easy disposal. Lightly grease with oil to prevent sticking.

Cool melted glycerin slightly, then stir in aromatics. Add food coloring if desired. Pour into molds once mixed evenly.
Let set for 1 hour at room temperature, then freeze 1-2 hours. Unmold, slice if needed, and gift to loved ones.
Your custom homemade soaps are ready! Quick, fun, and they last up to 3 months.
Bonus: Try soap sheets for travel or camping.
