Breakthrough AIDS research

Scientists say they have developed an AIDS vaccine for the first time that greatly reduces the risk of contracting HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus).

The vaccine is a combination of two vaccines that already existed. Separately, the vaccines proved ineffective, but when the two are combined, the risk of contracting the disease is reduced by 31 percent

The study was conducted by the US military and the Thai Ministry of Health. In total, more than 16,000 people between the ages of 18 and 30 volunteered in Thailand.
